Google's Gemini Code Assist is an enterprise-focused AI code completion and assistance tool. It was previously offered under the now-defunct Duet AI branding which became generally available in late 2023. Code Assist is both a rebrand and a major update. It uses Gemini 1.5 Pro, which has a million-token context window. Code Assist will be available through plug-ins for popular editors like VS Code.

Microsoft is enhancing its Paint application with new AI-powered features that resemble those found in Adobe Photoshop, specifically focusing on generative fill and erase capabilities. These updates aim to empower users to edit images more intuitively and effectively, reducing the need for more complex image editing software. The new features, named Generative Fill and Generative Erase, allow users to manipulate images by adding or removing objects with a brush tool. Generative Erase functions similarly to the Magic Eraser on Google Pixel devices, enabling users to eliminate unwanted elements from their images, such as background clutter or distractions. On the other hand, Generative Fill lets users introduce new AI-generated content into their images based on text descriptions, providing precise control over placement, akin to Photoshop's functionality. These advancements build upon the Cocreator tool introduced earlier for Copilot Plus PCs, which generates images from text prompts and reference sketches. Microsoft has updated the underlying diffusion model to enhance the quality and speed of outputs while incorporating moderation features to prevent misuse. In addition to Paint, Microsoft’s Photos app is also receiving the Generative Erase tool, along with a new Super-Resolution feature. This feature utilizes on-device AI to upscale images, allowing users to enhance blurry or pixelated images significantly—up to eight times their original resolution. The upscaling process is designed to be quick, reportedly capable of reaching 4K resolution in mere seconds, thus competing with existing tools like Canva and surpassing Adobe Lightroom's capabilities. These updates reflect Microsoft's commitment to integrating AI into its software, making creative tools more accessible and efficient for users.
